Rain, Rain - Go Away!!

A few nights ago, I laid in bed listening to the rain hit the windows.

It wasn't just a sprinkle…it poured.

And I found myself thinking the same thing I always do in moments like that:
“I hope people's basements are staying dry”

Because here's the thing—after years of walking through thousands of homes, I can tell you this…

Water is sneaky.

We've had a lot of rain lately.
And while everything outside looks lush and green…
Too much rain in a short amount of time can cause problems we don't always see right away.

Water is quiet.
It creeps in through the corners.
It hides behind walls and under floors.
And it often shows up long after the storm has passed.
After walking through thousands of homes, I can tell you—
you don't always know it's there until the damage is done.

That's why now—after all this rain—it's a good time to check in with your house.

Here are a few things I'd recommend:
-Walk your basement and look for moisture or musty smells
-Check your downspouts and make sure they're extended at least 6 feet away from the house
-Walk around your yard and look for areas where water pools or drains toward your foundation
-Take a peek at your sump pump—make sure it's running properly
-Look around windows and doors for signs of water coming in

It's a simple 10-minute walk-through that could save you from major headaches down the road.

While it's not the most glamorous topic, it's one of the most important.

Because water damage doesn't just affect your home—it can impact your health, your air quality, your insurance, and your long-term equity.

Even if everything looks fine, these are the little checks that protect the value of your home over time—and give you peace of mind in the process.

One of the best things you can do as a homeowner is simply pay attention. If something doesn't feel right, or you need a second set of eyes, we're here.

Whether you just want peace of mind, or you're thinking about long-term resale value—this kind of maintenance matters.

We're always happy to connect you with local resources, answer questions, or point you in the right direction.
